I have a Pavilion P7-1534 running Windows 8.1/64bit and the sound worked beautifully for a year. At some point a month or two ago the sound stopped working. With all the volume controls at 100% the sound from the speakers is extremely faint.
I have tried a different set of speakers and headphones and it is still very faint. I put these speakers on another system and they work fine.
I have looked through the forum for various fixes and have no success.
I assume something happened during an automatic Windows or HP update.
I tried the HP Recovery Manager to reinstall the original IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. It said successful and after reboot the problem persisted.
I downloaded the original driver and tried to reinstall that manually. It went through the routine and I received the following error message. "The update did not complete successfully. (259)"
Thoughts?
