System: P2-1394, windows 8, two small powered speakers plugged into lime green audio out connection on back panel
P2-1394, System sounds/windows sounds play thru attached speakers.
No media will play sound, i.e., youtube videos or music or DVD/CD's...
I have checked the normal places; audio is activated, speakers realtek... like I said, system sounds play, just no media.
Speakers are plugged into lime green, audio out on back panel.
Even stranger...I can connect remotely to the PC and media sounds will play on my remote host from the remote PC.
(...didn't expect that...)
Any ideas are welcomed. This seems like such a simple issue and yet? lol

Sidenote: This is a PC at a friends home some distance away. I connect regularly for help and training of simple things.
I originally thought the speaker wire had become disconnected in the back from moving the PC around.
Especially, as sounds from the PC would play just fine over my system when I was connected remotely.
I visited recently...and checked the cable and speaker connections and found that they were fine and in fact, system sounds and the sound test would play on the speakers fine, but no media would play locally thru the speakers.

Edit...5/12/2014 ...Inserted a DVD and a box came up to decide some media setting. The DVD movie plays with sound just fine after this. I apologize... Apparently, the owner had never put a DVD into the drive... Ok...so DVD's work.
Still no sound from Internet youtube or music files on youtube or other places on the Internet...on the DESKTOP side of windows 8. BUT...iHeart radio and other apps for sound work on the METRO start menu side of Windows 8.
I am using Chrome on the desktop side...and no sound from the Internet.
Could this be a codec that is missing? ...and is this an aberration of windows 8 from the Metro to Desktop side of the system? YIKES!
