HP Pavilion P6-2350 Desktop PC

OS Windows 8 (64-bit)

Problem: When monitor is connected to the DVI port "No Signal" is displayed on monitor and the monitor goes into standby mode.

Information is as follows: Above computer was purchased last Februrary (2013) for my spouse. There were no problems with the signal output from the DVI connector (the one that is part of the Motherboard) until April of this year. As of April of this year, the computer would boot up the monotor would come out of standby mode, give the "No Signal" message and go back into standby. This would happen intermittently. As this is not my computer I was not made aware of this until recently.

To fix the problem the drivers have been updated to the newest version. This did not fix the problem.

The monitor and cable were exchanged for another monitor and cable that works fine on a Windows 7 (64-bit) PC. Exchanging the monitor and cable for known good items did not fix the problem.

Believing the problem to be hardware related a MSI HD 6450 video card was installed (Secure Boot was disabled and Legacy Mode was enabled), drivers were updated to the latest version for the new video card. After rebooting and connecting the monitor to the new Graphix card "No Signal" was still displayed on the monitor when connected to the DVI connecter.

I decided to connect the monitor up via the VGA connector using a VGA cable and the VGA connector on the monitor; I was able to get a signal and see the output from the new video card. I then uninstalled the new video card and rebooted the system, this time connecting the monitor up via the VGA connector from the motherboard; again I got a signal.

I am rather puzzled at this point. The "No Signal" problem I am having seems to have nothing to do with graphix hardware, cabling or monitor. It does not seem to have anything to do with the drivers. And it seems to have started within the last 2-3 months. Also, it is localized to the DVI port but this still is independent of graphix hardware (ie the problem persists even when new graphix hardware is properly installed).

Any ideas on where I should go here?

Thank you in advance,

DP
