Nvidia GForce 8500 GT came with my circa 2005 desktop. My original monitor finally died and I just bought an HP W2371d. I don't know if the issue is with the video card and/or the monitor itself so I'm posting both places. I've checked for newest drivers for both. They see each other and the monitor is automatically selecting the native resolution which is 1920x1080. I'm running Windows 7.
My issue is that I cannot get the image to fill the monitor screen completely. AND it cuts off the right edge slightly. So where Windows 7 offers a space that when clicked takes you to the desktop, I can't see that and I lose the last part of the time and year too.
When I go to http://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com/ it says my screen resolution is 1536 X 864 which is weird. That's not what Nvidia says. It says 1920x1080 is selected.
I've tried using both the Nvidia settings and the monitor hardware settings to no avail. When I got to IMage Control the Custom Scaling is grayed out so all I can do is nudge the entire image to fill the blank black space on the right. But it doesn't make the image fit within. I've tried many of the other resolutions and they all distort and do not fix the issue.
Where is there a disconnect? Oh....I'm using a VGA cable with a DVI adapter on it as it's all I had. Will buying a DVI cable fix this? Or do I need a different video card (would rather not go that route if possible). What am I missing here?
Thanks.
