Video card upgrade with H8-1214 Pavilion

I have an HP Pavilion HPE H8-1214 with the Gigabyte M3970AM motherboard, 6X AMD970 chipset, 10GB memeory with an AMD Radeon HD7450 video card. It runs really well, except for the video card, which usually is the choke pint in over-the-counter computers. I bought a 600W power supply for the extra power and the PCI-E cable; the install went fine and the computer still runs well.

HOWEVER....

Bought and tried an AMD R7-260 at Best Buy, which is a PCI-E x 16 compatible card. No love, dies at the splash screen.

Tried an AMD R5-240 there, still no love & dies at the splash screen.

Tried an Nvidia 690 there (which HP says IS compatible) - still dies at the splash screen.

Finally got an Nvidia 610 to run there, but that's no better than than the AMD Radeon HD 7450.

Is there something I'm missing? BIOS has been flashed to 7.16, it's all clean and runs great with the 7450. Any suggestions, please and thank you!!!
