Monitor keeps going black, but everything is still on?

I know noootthhiinnggg about computers, if theres 3 remotes for a TV my brain explodes.

So here I go:

I have an HP 2310m monitor that will go black and come back on again, and then off and on again. It flickers.  Then it'll be fine for about 10 mintues, I can suf the web etc. Then it acts up again. The computer does not turn off, the monitor light is still on and blue. I can even keep typing, and it will type even if the screen goes black.  I dont play video games and I do nothing special with my computer, I just dont understand :/
