I worked on 2 of these computers that were purchased in 2 different states 900 miles apart. Each was not able to change from Windows update to Microsoft update. After trying things for an hour or so I downloaded "Silverlight" from the Microsoft downloads and there was a checkmark to enable Microsoft update.
The computer is now working just fine, the 2nd one I bought for myself!
Note that I did install an SSD (drive) that improved performance remarkably.
