No sound from speakers

My desktop does not have sound coming from external speakers.  I have uninstalled sound devices....restored the computer to factory settings and still no sound.  The default playback is the speakers and when I test them there is no sound.  I do have a xfx video card (r9 270x) with audio.  I have removed it and still no sound.  

Both items listed in device manager have the same - location 0 (internal high definition audio bus).  I am assuming this is the problem.  Have disabled both (one at a time) and still no sound.
