I just bought a new "floor model" HP 500-267c tower with Windows 7 Home Premium from Costco.
The first thing I did when I brought the computer home was perform a System Restore.
Everything appears to be working just fine, except the system does not recognize the speakers.
The audio icon in the lower right of the system tray has a red x symbol and states "No speakers or headphones are plugged in". The Control Panel Sound window states that the Speakers/Headphones are Enabled but are not plugged in.
But the speakers ARE plugged in (green "line-out" jack) .
The speakers themselves are not faulty (they function beautifully with two other computers I tried them on) .
I also plugged in some headphones (known to work with other devices) in the headphone jack in the front of the computer -- no sound there either.
I have used the Recovery Manager to update the "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC".
I have also within the Device Manager uninstalled and then (auto detect) re-installed the "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC".
"IDT High Definition Audio CODEC" Driver properties state that the Device is working properly and specify the following:
Driver Date: 8/16/2013
Driver Version: 6.10.6491.0
I don't know what else to try......any help would be most appreciated.
