Adding an nVidia GT640 video card to a new HP Envy desktop

Since purchasing a new HP ENVY 700-147c Desktop PC and a new nVidia GEForce GE 640 video card over in Nov 2013 (cybermonday sales), I have been unable to have the HP Envy boot with the GE 640 card in place. After hitting the start button, with one of the HDMI ports enable ( same results using a VGA>HDMI adapter), I get a series of POST messages with the either the HDMI of VGA screens staying black.

I removed the internal AMD video drivers as recommended by nVidia tech support, but with the same results. When I removed the GE 640 card, the Win 8.1 had reset the original drivers, and I can run off the internal VGA / HDMI ports on the Envy, but with much lower resolution than the GE 640 card would allow.

I repeated this test procedure and checked the BIOS to see if there are any adjustments could be made, but none were noted... please advise if I have missed anything in the Envy BIOS.

I repeated the procedure with a known nVidia GEForce 9500GT card from another HP Pavilion PC running Win 7 Pro. The power on results were the same; black screens with POST messages about 4-5 seconds after powerup.

Upon removing the 9500GT card, I was again able to operate with the HP Envy onboard graphics.

Please advise on how I can add the GE 640 card, which I had purchased the new Envy for, for the graphics work that I do.
