play cd

I've got an HP computer running w8.  I'm having problems with my cd burner/player.  i can burn cd okay but when I try to play one of these cd's the computer ejects the cd.

I'm not very savy with much of this stuff but usually can figure things out.  I can't understand what's wrong here.  I thought maybe the media was being rejected but then I wondered why I could burn but not play a home made disk. 

Any suggetstions would be appreciated.
