I own an HP Pavilion Elite CTO (configured to order) desktop pc, purchased several years ago. I also still have - and still use - the remote control that came with my much older HP Media Center PC that I purchased at a local store more than a decade ago. For the remote control to work, I only need to simply plug the IR Receiver (p/n5187-5049) into any USB port, and point the remote toward it.
But here's my question : I recently noticed there are two round holes (ports) in the back of the IR receiver box, which are labeled "1" and "2". My curiosity lead me to discover that a standard 3.5mm headphone jack snaps perfectly into either one of the holes (ports). But I presume the box does not and can not play music or any other audio.
So I'm just wondering what purpose the two ports have, and what their intended use is for, and why HP put the two holes (ports) in the IR Receivers. I have a photo which shows the two ports in back of the IR Receiver, if I can just figure out how (or if it's even possible) to attach a photo to this message I'm posting.
