I have been having an audio issue with my HP Pavillion 500 PC (it's a desktop) with Windows 8.1 installed. I was having no issue today, but I restarted my computer due to an unrelated issue, and all audio stopped working period.
I record videos with an external webcam (an Logitech HD Webcam C525) and have been downloading some recording software(s) this week, but nothing today or yesterday. Before I restarted, I was attempting to start a recording by loading up my webcam recording software, NCH Debut. The program repeatedly told me the webcam was already in use by another program. I checked my programs running, unplugged my webcam multiple times, and even reinstalled the program, but the problem still persisted. I decided that restarting must be the best way to fix this.
I restarted, and I found that the audio icon in the corner of the screen indicated that my audio was muted. Finding that odd, I clicked on it and the computer attempted to run a troubleshooter. It found that the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC was having an issue. I told the window to resolve the problem, but it did nothing.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the appropriate CODEC twice (both through HP Recovery Manager and a manual download), and there's been no change whatsoever. Upon further inspection (through Window's Device Manager), I repeatedly get a "(Code 19)", which indicates that there is something wrong with my audio registry. I have no clue how to fix this or what to do with this information. I am out of ideas and very frusterated.
It should also be noted that my webcam has also stopped working. I downloaded the software that came with my program from Logitech's site, and the webcam functions did not work whatsoever (including the cam and mic). When my webcam is plugged in, doing an audio troubleshooting finds the webcam to be the problem. But like the problem with the audio CODEC, the problem cannot be resolved. The webcam is only about a month old. My webcam was plugged in when I restarted my computer. However, there is nothing wrong with my USB ports, because my Wacom Intuos tablet (which indicates it's on with a light) functions normally.
My headphones also do not function and there is no sound coming from my computer whatsoever. There are no audio adjustments availible to me, and I don't know how to fix things. Any help whatsoever is gladly appreciated.
