hibernation mode - HP w2207 monitor cycles Device connect & Device Disconnect system sounds

Previously looked for help on windows support < HERE >

When my desktop PC goes into hibernation the system sounds for "device disconnect"  and "device  connect" starts playing repeatedly.

At first I thought it had something to do with adding a second monitor. But discovered it was caused by connecting the HP w2207 monitor with a DVI-D cable.

My 2nd monitor has only VGA connection. MY PC has ( 1) DVI-D and (1) VGA  outputs so I reconnected the HP monitor to VGA.  The cycle between device connect and disconnect does not occur.

SO how do i fix this without turning off the associated  2 sounds?

Condensed post from windows forum:

I followed the other forums advice

Method 1

Run Hardware troubleshooter.

Method 2

Step 1:

Let’s boot the computer in Safe Mode and check if issue reappears.

Step 2:

If your computer works fine in safe mode, I would suggest you to perform clean boot.

I did run in safe mode. In safe mode the PC will not turn off monitor in power saving mode.

control panel  /  power options /   NO sleep option -  only turn off display option but when set to "1 minute" nothing happens after 1 minute.

What I did discover after playing with power option in normal windows mode by setting

< Turn off display >        "1 minute"    and

<  Turn off hard drive >   "2 minutes"

After 1 minute system sounds would cycle for "Device connect" "Device Disconnect" until Hard Drive shuts down after 2 min. The monitor is  disconnecting, reconnecting , disconnecting, reconnecting, until the hard drive shuts off or system wakes up.

When I added the second monitor to the system is when this started. but I disconnected the 2nd monitor and it was still doing it.

DING- DING- DING. What's different? The cables!

Originally I had  #1 monitor connected with VGA cable.  #2  monitor is older and only has VGA input.

So I got a DVI-D cable and connected #1 w/ DVI-D. I was still using the DVI-D cable for #1 with the #2 disconnected. So I reconnected # 1 with VGA cable and problem is gone. SORT OF!

Still doesn't solve the real problem. I should be able to use both monitors with both cables with out having the device on/off conflict.

MY PC has an Intel desktop board DH55TC with i3 Intel Core.
