Hi, looking for a suggestion on how to get video display back.. My e9290f all of a sudden started randomly rebooting about 5 days ago - every 2 to 30 minutes. It seemed to reboot most when running some CPU intensive programs. All HP diagnostics passed: cpu, memory, etc... My computer has one hardware change from the original configuration: I replaced the video card with a ATI 2460 4 port display card, which has been working fine for the past 2 years.
After searching forums, I tried replacing the anti-virus software - no change. Finally I gave up and did a system recovery, restoring the system to its original "out-of-the box" configuration. It appeared the re-booting problem went away, as I was able do all the dozens and dozens Windows 7 updates without a problem. The ATI 4-port video card was being driven by the standard insatlled windows display driver. When I then installed the specific driver for the ATI 2460 video card, the system started re-booting. Ahhh! must be the ATI card causing the problem - so I ordered a replacement...
While waiting for the new video card I decided to put back in the original NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 video card that came with the machine originally. THis worked fine, and I continued loading software, and later shut down for the night.
The next day when I powered up the machine, there was no display at all. I pluged monitors into both video ports and nothing displays. I've tried hitting the various F8, F10, F3, F4 keys and nothing... Upon power up, the disk drive spins up, but no beeps or anything else.. Just blank screens - it appears there is no signal coming to the screens, the indicator lights just blinks waiting for a input sgnal.
Any suggestions on how to proceed??? How to get a display to see what's going on???
--Oh, I have tried a third video card too.. and still nothing. I'm going to check power supply voltages next - just in case it may have burpped....
Thanks in advance for any and all comments/help/suggestions....
