Had a hard drive failure, and had to replace with a new hard drive. So loaded Windows 7 Ultimate (system came with Vista), and monitor speakers were initially working. As windows ran Update, somewhere along the way the monitor speakers stopped working. I did all the obvious things, checked the HDMI cable, updated the Realtek audio driver to current (Nov. 2013), updated the My HP Display (version 1.40) and video drivers, checked to make sure the HDMI devise was checked as the default playback, volume levels raised to 75, nothing is muted. When I click test on the Realtek HDMI Audio Device in Sound, I can see the green bars move up and down, but there is no sound coming from the monitor speakers. I ran the audio playback troubleshooter, and it says the peripheral does not appear to be plugged in. It is plugged in, or I wouldn't have been able to hear sound after windows 7 was initially installed. I checked the HDMI and other monitor cables anyway, and they are all plugged in. I'm out of ideas, and really need help.
