Pavilion desktop sound failure. Windows 7 (P6206)

About 3 weeks ago the sound on my desktop stopped working. Online research indicated that I should reload the Realtek driver which I have now done on numerous occassions. Sometimes I get a result but this is usually shortlived (about 5 minutes) but usually nothing. Using device manager there is sometimes a section for sound - othertimes not. If I expand the sound I have managed to get to 'reload drivers'.  If I do this my computer crashes and I get a blue screen. Messages shown by hovering over the sound icon on the screen have included; No speakers connected/No audio output device installed/ Speakers @ xx% (but not necessarily any sound)

If anyone has any suggestion as to how I may solve this most annoying issue I shall be most grateful.

Thanks

Neil
