I wish to connect my computer to my TV for video only.

I have a 110-010xt Desk top computer.

I wish to connect my computer to my TV for video only.  I have tried a converter with DVI-D to HDMI. The converter is a duel converter with DVI-D to DVI-D and HDMI. There is not signal through the HDMI connector. Is there some other device or can I put a HDMI card in my computer if it has an unused card slot?  The DVI-D on the converter works fine. If I put the HDMI cable on the DVI-D stops working. The HDMI has no signal when the DVI-D is not connected.  Any help will appreciated. Thanks!
