Monitor resolution on a HP Elitebook 8560w

Recently I've gotten my hands on a 30 inch monitor, which I've been trying to connect properly with my HP Elitebook 8560w (i7).

Only there seems to be a problem when trying to use the proper resolution for the monitor. The monitor (a Samsung Syncmaster 305t plus) can handle a resolution of 2560x1600. When I try connecting it with my laptop using an active adapter from display port to DVI-D, it recognizes the resolution, but when applying it, the monitor flashes colors. This isn't the case when I use a resolution of 1280x800 or lower.

Is this an issue with the monitor or is my laptop simply not able to handle the resolution (although it's supposed to be able to)?

I've tried updating all the drivers, I'm using a DisplayPort to DVI Dual Link Adapter, USB Powered and Dual Link DVI cable. I've already tried Single Link and Dual Link with a normal DVI-D to DisplayPort, but in this case it can only see a resolution of 1920x1080, which displays flashing colors as well.

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

(Excuse my English if there are any mistakes.)
